Vague Issue 46 Launch Gallery

Here is a gallery of photos taken at the launch for issue 46 of Vague Mag which took place at our shop last Saturday. Thanks to everyone who showed up and made this another memorable night, it’s always good to see the community out in full force…

Crowds gathered on Saturday for the launch of Vague issue 46 and a series of premieres

As well as launching the magazine the squad at Vague lined up some premieres to tie in with the night. We were hyped to see Dougie George’s new part filmed by Al Hodgson and this prolific partnership delivered as always. To coincide with this there was also a limited O.W.L zine released, some of which are still available from the shop if you pay us a visit. Dougie’s part was joined by a new Alex Richard part filmed by Pierre Patissou, and a brand new HEADZ video entitled H3ADZ created by Harrison Woolgar also premiered. The shop filled up to take these in…

To close out this photo gallery of the launch night we thought it would be nice to reconnect with a former employee who we very much enjoyed working with, who is also co-founder of this important UK publication. Here is a banging recent photo of Guy Jones followed by some of his own words about Vague, Slam, and how those stories intertwine…

I started working at the esteemed Slam City Skates the same time they opened their Truman Brewery store 8 years ago. I was honoured to be one of the maiden staff at this branch for such a historic shop. This period of time was also when Reece Leung, my partner Hannah Martin and I launched Vague Magazine, a passion project we’re proud to say we’re still deeply immersed in.

Due to an administrative, logistical and professional error on my part we had hundreds of our first Issue delivered to the Slam store whilst I was away. My colleagues (friends first) were a bit overwhelmed and the bosses were not best pleased. My response of “Ay doesn’t get more skater owned than this, does it?” whilst jauntily shrugging my shoulders and giving a comedic grin wasn’t that well received but they came around eventually. Quite possibly due to the dizzying high’s induced by the smells of an absolute arse load of magazines (the smell is something we hold in high regard and often use to negotiate advertising revenue).

Nearly a decade later, not much has changed. We love what we do. We all work jobs outside of Vague. We still make niche references 2 or 3 people may understand. Reece still works extremely hard and continues to take some of the finest photos around. Hannah has taken a step back (but still helps out immensely) and we’ve signed journalistic striker Jono Coote from Real Madrid FC on a fictional contract meaning the writing has improved tenfold.

Anyway back to the task at hand, a write up about the Issue 46 launch. It’s nice that so many years later we could have an official launch at Slam rather than boxes upon boxes of Vague blocking us from selling Bones Reds. It doesn’t get much better than socialising with some of our oldest friends, having lively responses to the 3 videos premiered and generally cementing the reasons we started a magazine and had launches in the first place. To have a laugh with like minded people and enjoy the bizarreness of our odd little subculture. Thank you so much to Slam, Cam Barr, Ben Keegan, Kieron Forbes, Jacob Sawyer, Lloyd Davies and Tygar Smith who made the evening run smoother than Gino’s push (well almost). Big love to all who came down and anyone who’s picked up a mag, we appreciate it more than can be articulated. Major shout outs to those who have supported us over the years, especially KEEN Distribution for always going above and beyond for this modestly pretentious periodical publication.

Big love,

Guy, Reece, Jono, Vinnie (dog) & Gus (also dog)
