Thames, Tits and Teeth

You may know Blondey McCoy from skating at Southbank, from Palace videos and communications, last nights Adidas video or as the mind behind the clothing company Thames. He is also an artist in his own right with two successful shows under his belt. This is an invite to his third West End show on Friday 27th May. Here is more info about it…

On the last Friday in May, for one happy day and one blurry night only, Blondey McCoy returns to a jazzy Soho gallery to show off his new art stuff. Thames, Tits & Teeth presents the latest detour in Blondey’s precocious full-pelt skate through art media: a burgeoning career that has seen the 18 year-old Southbank skateboarder skip any formal art training and already successfully show his work across photography, collage, painting, sculpture and film, in two group shows and two lauded solo exhibitions. He has only ever shown his work in Soho, where he lives and works and drinks and likes to be, can you blame him?

The new show is the first example yet of this polymathic upstart’s picking one thing and sticking to it. Thames, Tits & Teeth consists of ten identically sized lightbox collages; seedy neon beams now flashing and flooding his spliced-up, nostalgic images of soft-focussed sexy ladies from vintage porno. Recalling the neon-lit sleaze of the fading old Soho and gleefully subverting the pornographic gaze, Blondey’s new work marries his incorrigible teenage fixations to his incorrigible need to change direction and do new things, this time with exciting flashing lights. It will, says the young artist; “act as 10 windows into the obsessive and fantastic west-end world, and an homage to it, exploring the idea of negative space and good tits.”

All work in the show will be for sale on the day for top whack, there will be oodles of booze and posh food and a party into the central London night. Still not convinced? Maybe it’s just not for you.
