Nike SB Free Wear Test Berlin

Posted on

We were recently invited out to Berlin by Nike SB for a wear test. Our main mission was to be a trip to the Shelter where we would try out the Nike SB Free for the first time. Our trip was well planned and we were looked after. The hotel we were staying in had a huge fish tank in the middle of it…

On the day we were arrived a shuttle picked us up and whisked us away to Soho House. Kevin Imamura from the Nike global team gave us a presentation about the development of the Free. He was joined by Sean Malto who worked closely on the project. We learnt a lot about the shoe and the technological advances that made it possible in a very short period of time. We then made our way to see our friends at Civilist…

This is the window put together to showcase the Fluff 1826 book release. Here is a video from Fluff to give you more of an idea as to what went on…

We woke early the next day for the wear test. This was to be a lot different to anything we had attended before. Everyone had been split into teams with a captain. Slam team rider Casper Brooker had his own team which included another team rider Rob Mathieson. Staff member Jacob Sawyer was on Karsten Kleppan’s team…

Daniel Stankovic had done a great job of organising this competition. There were sheets of tricks. Whole checklists including flatground, transition all the way through to classics. We were assigned two filmers and everybody quickly set about trying to tick tricks of the sheet. Here’s a photo of Hjalte Halberg getting involved and putting the Free through it’s paces with a back smith…

We then sat with a team who uploaded all of our tricks and edited them down in the Nike SB App. We were to return later for a premiere of each teams session edited down and the prize giving. Daniel Lebron’s team took the win which earnt them a trip to Barcelona. Casper was disappointed with last place…

We then went to the Bright awards. Here are a few highlights from the stage…

Endless Bummer won full length video of the year and Slam team rider Rory Milanes accompanied Lev on stage with his head lamp on. Partying ensued afterwards. Here is a gallery of a few photos…

Thanks to Nike SB for our time away. More information about what we learnt at the Free presentation next week.
