Clarks began in 1825 in a tannery in Somerset when one of two brothers came up with the idea to produce sheepskin slippers. Clarks as a company has adapted and expanded ever since. Their range of shoes is vast and they are arguably the most comfortable you can buy. Different styles have been adopted by musicians of differing genres. Raekwon and Ghostface Killer’s love of the Wallabee made that shoe a favourite. It was a skateboarders chiller of choice during the nineties. Jamaica’s love affair with Clarks as a brand is the most notable, championed by reggae musicians from Dr Alimanatado through to Vybz Kartel. Clarks were the rude boys choice and it all started with the Desert Boot. Another popular style is the Desert Trek, the heel of this is embossed with a hiker carrying a backpack. In Kingston this image was seen as a thief on the run with a bag of swag causing it to be affectionately re-named the “bank robber”. None of these are specific reasons for us to order the brand, we just like the shoes but it is interesting that the three styles mentioned are the three new styles to hit our shelves. These are available online and from our East London store.
